Ben and Sarah are getting married in a few weeks, and I’m happy to show their recent engagement session here. I know I’ve said this before, but doing engagement photos is such a good way to get to know my clients. I had a totally different impression of Sarah and Ben from our one brief meeting prior to their engagement session, and I now know a bit about what they’re really like. This is important for photos on their wedding day, because we customize our coverage to fit our clients! We met by the creek in Golden on a perfect evening, and walked around to some different spots for photos. I like to keep things moving so there’s lots of different looks in a set of photos and lots to choose from. Here’s a small sampling of their photos:

Samuel and Oliver are two years old! I’ve now done five shoots with these two, and they are growing so fast. They have a baby sister on the way too, so it was fun to do a shoot where they could be the stars! I love capturing kid’s personalities and play, and it often means I’m rolling around on the grass and doing whatever I can to get the shots. When I made some antlers on my head out of sticks the kids brought me I got some strange looks from Samuel and Oliver, as well as probably other people in the park. I’m really looking forward to shooting with their soon to be larger family in the future!

Around Christmas time I was contacted by two former clients who wanted to give a family photo session as a gift to their co-worker. Thanks Camilla and Kelly! I talked with Matthew and at his request we headed out to Red Rocks for some fun family photography. Their kids were great during the shoot and we had a great time going to a few different spots in the Red Rocks area. I always make a point to get lots of individual shots of kids in action as well as the whole family together. This makes these lifestyle family shoots a solid value for the investment!

I met up with Kat and Ethan at their house in the Highlands and we set out on a photo safari. It was fun getting to know them a bit and shooting their photos around their neighborhood at some spots I had scouted out and a few we stumbled on. A highlight of the shoot was sneaking up the back stairway at Linger and doing some photos on their rooftop patio while the lower levels were packed with people. In one photo where they are sitting on the RV bar, they are laughing at me because I just hit my head on a pole trying to get the right angle. Good times – anything for the shot!
I also just saw this post about engagement photos that I thought was right on. I’ve always thought that a big part of doing engagement photos was to have cool photos of yourselves at a very unique point in your lives. Check out the Huffington Post story here.
